photograph, a grouping of Large-Flowered Trillium (Trillium
grandiflorum) bloom in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Over 1,400 species of wildflowers grow within the park boundaries,
more than in any other North American national park. North of
the tropics, only China rivals the Southern Appalachians for plant
diversity. Large-Flowered Trillium are some of the largest and
most striking early spring wildflowers found here, with some flowers
reaching two inches or more in size.
