A lone fir tree creates a silhouette in the clouds, as Clingman's Dome (in Great Smoky Mountains National Park) is engulfed in mist. Due to the elevation, it is not uncommon to find this area within or above the clouds. What is bad for general landscape photography, however, is not always bad for other types of nature photography. The "fog" imparts a surreal quality to the light and surroundings that is difficult to find under other circumstances.
