Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the crown jewel of the Appalachian Mountains, attracts millions of visitors each year. In the spring and early summer, the park is transformed into a wildflower photographer's paradise. Over 1,400 species grow here, more than in any other North American national park. North of the tropics, only China rivals the Southern Appalachians for plant diversity. Needless to say, nature photography opportunities abound here. In this photograph, Green Coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata) and Bee Balm (Monarda didyma) adorn a hillside along Noland Divide.
